Seven years ago Mananacare raised nearly 100,000 euro’s at Sandro Morelli’s birthday party in the Villa Tiberio restaurant, today that money has changed the lives of many many people, young and elderly.
A team, led by the Manacare Foundation went to the Tsunami struck area in the south of Sri Lanka. The Village of Hopes and Dreams has been built with that money and has give many people Education, Health Services, Training, Employment, Housing, Sports Facilities and above all a Community Spirit. Of course fund raising had to continue as the whole village which is very nearly finished, cost well over four million euro’s.
In February Lorraine Powell organized a fund raising dinner at Sol Y Luna in Marbella and just under 7,000 euro’s was raised to help finish off some of the buildings, and provide much needed items. The evening was a great success …..
The Centre costs just under 3,000 euro’s per month to keep going, this employs 66 people, including teachers, doctors, physiotherapists, sports coaches, trainers. It also pays the overheads of all the buildings, and feeds the children. …. More than 700 children and adults use the Centre
The funds raised have already finished off two houses, one for an orphan with cerebral palsy,
and one for a young girl born with polio, so in a wheelchair but walks a little on crutches.
The swimming pool has also been finished, much of the electrical work has now been finished. The Montessori school
building was rather small for the amount of children, and more are expected in June so this room has
been made larger. We have also purchased gymnasium equipment… and the chess club has started
