Steve Gilmour celebrates the end of an era

Friends, fellow presenters and advertisers bade Glasgow boy Steve, a fond aud lang syne, to celebrate the years spent at Talk Radio Europe at Nueva Campana restaurant this weekend.

Marbella Plus spoke to the ex head of Spain’s favorite English speaking radio station over a fine glass of  Albariño in the ever popular Nueva Campana restaurnt in La Campana, Marbella. Steve, although sad to be leaving a post that he has cherished over the last three years, even though he only meant to lend a hand for a few weeks, is looking forward to being back in the land of the deep fried Mars bar and opening his own little bit of Spain in Hope St, Glasgow. Yes indeed, if you ever find yourself in the better side of Scotland’s most famous footballing town and fancy some “Pintxos” then look up Steve at his new venture in the hottest part of town, although how Steve will stop the Scots hiding the toothpicks that traditionally hold these tapas together and are counted by the wait staff to see what your bill will be, I have no idea? I’m sure the Polish staff, last time I was in Glasgow the Poles ran the entire catering industry, will have them sorted.

Quoted below is the official statement made by TRE this week.

“Steve has played a major role at TRE in the 5 years he has been with the radio, and is leaving behind TRE in better shape than ever. We are of course sad to see Steve go, grateful for his contributions and wish him all the best with his future plans”, says Martin Nathan, Chairman of Talk Radio Europe.

Bill Padley takes on the new role of Station Manager. He says, “It is thanks to Steve that TRE has continued to survive in an economic climate that is not great, particularly for the radio industry.”

Bill is currently the Presenter of TRE’s “Let’s Talk” program which airs from 10am to 12pm weekdays (except Tuesday’s). He has vast radio experience, having worked in major British radio stations since 1975, including Radio Victory, Radio Clyde, and BBC London. He was also a founder of the UK’s biggest
independent radio production company.

“I love this radio station. I have found it to be really professional with a really good team of people. I said “yes” to taking on the role of Station Manager as I believe in TRE and believe there is a lot I can bring to the table” says Bill.

He does not foresee any massive changes in the near future. However, he will be concentrating on making the current programming even better than it is.

On a personal note I have to say I have enjoyed working with Steve and the team at TRE both as official photographer and sometime guest, although regular readers of my posts will realise my straight talking doesn’t always suit live radio, hence being on”men talk” has had  Hannah Murray’s hand nervously hovering over the fader whenever I begin to talk, and probably the reason I haven’t been heard for a while.

Good luck Steve, see you in Glasgae, and Bill, good luck in your new post.
